Australia Hopes to Lure Dawn Treader
Queensland's new water tank is ideal.

February 21, 2007 - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe recreated the magical realm of Narnia in picturesque New Zealand, and Prince Caspian will also hold a certain portion of production there. For The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, however, nearby Australia would like in on the action.
According to The West Australian, Warner Roadshow Studios in Queensland has built a new, massive, multimillion-dollar water tank — one of only a few around the world suited for large-scale ocean and underwater scenes in movie production. It's currently being put to use in the Matthew McConaughey film Fool's Gold, but the third Narnia picture was specifically mentioned as one they'd like to attract.
Walden Media and Disney expect to begin production on Dawn Treader not long after they wrap up their Caspian shoot. A water tank is a likely necessity for the third in the series, a marine adventure, and Australia's new facility might be convenient enough if the producers plan to return to that part of the world. Will the production need to return to New Zealand, though? Most of the film takes place on the high seas, and Disney might prefer a more tropical locale to shoot the various island adventures that Caspian, Lucy, and Edmund undertake while sailing the Dawn Treader. If so, a good candidate might be the island of Grand Bahama, where the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean flicks were shot.
Prince Caspian is currently in principle photography. In a few months time, we might know more on what the studio's plans for Voyage of the Dawn Treader are. Stay tuned!
